Mechano Growth Factor (MGF) is a splice variant of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) that is produced locally in muscle and other tissues in response to mechanical stress or damage. Unlike systemic IGF-1, MGF acts locally at the site of tissue damage to activate muscle satellite cells — the stem cells responsible for muscle repair and growth.
 
Current research has explored MGF in the following contexts: muscle satellite cell activation and myoblast proliferation, local tissue repair following mechanical stress or injury, muscle fiber hypertrophy and regeneration mechanisms, neuroprotection and cardiac tissue repair, and comparative IGF-1 splice variant biology.
